How Effective are you in Giving Feedback?

We spend a lot of time teaching people how to give feedback and preface each session with the following challenge:

The best measure of your effectiveness in giving feedback to people whether they be your colleagues; your manager; you team members, parents, partner of children is…

…how responsive they are to your feedback.

Some people will challenge this saying:

  • It’s not my fault that ‘they’ are set in their ways; that they don’t listen to me or respect my views; it’s not my fault that they don’t want to change…

Well our belief is that it is easier to do something about ‘me’ than it is to do something about ‘they’. And so take time to consider that it is ‘how’ you give feedback to people that determines how responsive they will be to that feedback!
