The Business

Established in 1997 Revolution Ash Consulting has a long-standing association with the Mining/ Resources Sector. We have also done work in the Manufacturing, Printing and the Retail sectors as well as with NGO/ Non-Profit companies. We are a small organization and so our clients get to work directly with our Principals. We do have a number of associates who we can call upon to support large programs/ projects as well as a track record of developing and using the capability of client employees to support and deliver key workshops.

The business while operating out of bases in Melbourne and Sydney takes us throughout Australia and our Principals have also worked in Botswana, Indonesia, Malaysia, Namibia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Swaziland, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and Zimbabwe.

The Principals

Michelle Ash

Michelle Ash founded the business and holds the portfolio of Managing Director. Although currently not active in the business' day to day operations due to her involvement in unrelated business interests Michelle is actively involved in the development of the business' strategy and is also an invaluable advisor on key projects. Michelle is a Civil Engineer who very early on in her career gravitated into Mining Engineering & Management and after line leadership roles in both an operational and service delivery environment in Hamersley Iron Michelle established Revolution Ash Consulting. Michelle holds tertiary qualifications in Business Administration and Psychology in addition to her Engineering degree and specializes in organizational structure, leadership and team development.

Don Ash

Don Ash is a seasoned teacher, trainer and facilitator and a specialist in the design and development of training programs and processes to achieve client required outcomes. He holds degrees in Education & Linguistics and has worked with or for Anglo American, de Beers, CRA, most of Rio Tinto Business Australian based Units, WMC, BHP/Billiton and a host of other medium sized Mining/ Resources Companies on large and small projects. Don's expertise is in the areas of behavioral change, inclusivity and team dynamics/development. Don has particular capabilities in the development of experiential learning activities and videotaping and debriefing these in a manner that is confronting but also warm and humorous. Don's particular interest includes how to enable clients to achieve high adoption rates to new processes, systems or technologies when these are being introduced.

Rick Dobbie

Rick Dobbie is an ex-Australian Army Officer with extensive leadership and training experience. Military appointments included command of a Leopard Tank Squadron and Director of the Australian Defence Force Peacekeeping Centre. Rick has held a variety of specific training appointments that have included responsibility for the personal development and leadership training of naval and military officer cadets within the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and for Regional Defence Forces as an instructor, guidance officer and mentor. Since leaving the ADF Rick has worked with Lihir Gold, UK Coal, Solid Energy and TNB in Malaysia as well as with a variety of our Australian based clients. Rick holds Graduate Diplomas in both Management Studies and Conflict Resolution and specializes in Team Leadership as well as Strategy and Planning.

Mike Dobbie

Mike is a journalist with extensive experience in training and communications. He has worked in journalism for more than 20 years, much of that time with the Business Review Weekly (BRW) magazine group, part of Fairfax Business Media. He was a section editor at BRW magazine, deputy editor of Personal Investor magazine, and managing editor of Shares magazine. He was also national editor – business titles with the client publishing division of Text Media Group and editor of Qantas – The Australian Way inflight magazine. Most recently, Mike was director - communications and campaigns for the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance, the trade union and professional organisation for the media, entertainment, sports and arts industries. Since 2002 he has provided safety, quality, leadership, management and ethics training for journalists and editors as a project consultant with the International Federation of Journalists, the global professional organisation of journalists. In this role, he has conducted training in Afghanistan, Cambodia, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Taiwan.

Bernard Ash

Bernard hails from a Software Engineering background in defence related projects in the role of a Senior Software Engineer. He also has extensive Configuration Management experience through the design, development and implementation of Product Lifecycle Management Systems. Having worked for Raytheon and Boeing Australia, Bernard has gained experience in project implementation in conjunction with the Australian Navy, Army and Air force. Bernard holds a degree in Biological and aquatic sciences and Software Engineering. While at Raytheon Australia, Bernard underwent Six Sigma training to gain the title of Six Sigma Specialist via the implementation of nationwide projects.

Kerry Osling

Kerry Osling has worked within the aluminium smelting and mineral sands industries in a number of operational and technical leadership roles. He holds a Chemical Engineering degree with a Masters of Business Administration and has extensive experience in developing teams and culture to improve business performance. Kerry has actively lead change in safety, employment systems, costs, process capability, and plant expansion/commissioning. Having worked for Comalco Smelting and Tiwest Joint Venture, Kerry now provides consulting and training services. His clients have included Aldoga Aluminium, WMC Nickel, Tiwest JV, and BHP Billiton.
